Random Plants

As a parallel to my random animal tables I decided to do a similar thing with plants. Some of the more exotic plants of Entorais were generated from the tables then adapted to fit the world better.

Here is a link to the shared pdf: Random Flora Tables (v.1.1) (updated).

I encourage my readers to have fun with these tables. If you do find these useful, please use the results in your own works. I only ask that you give credit where appropriate. Any feedback on the tables, weird results, or thoughts about the process of randomizing plants are welcome.

  1. Hey Sebastian,

I was really inspired by your flora generation table. So I made a python script to do all the rolls and extra conditions automatically. Right now an output looks like this:

but I’m planning on having it displayed in a more readable format (HTML page, spreedsheet, or whateva). Would you be comfortable with me uploading it to github? or interested in me sharing it with you.

I don’t have any plans for it but I’d be interested in getting your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    Andrea

  2. Greetings Andrea,

Actually I released this semi-publicly under CC for others to utilize as they wish, or to make derivative works. All I ask is that you please attribute myself as the originator of the tables. and link back to my article, or the pdf’s themselves.

I did really want to automate this some myself, but never got around to coding it, so I thank you for this.

  3. Just wanted to ask a question about the Random Plants and Random Animals tables.
I recently finished a generator version of Random Plants (made in Visual Studio; C#). The generator credits you as its original creator, and cotains a link back to the PDF itself.
However, both of the PDFs contain the lines “Copyright 2017 Sebastian Romu”. Does this mean I am unable to publicly share the generator?

    1. Hi Nat, Actually I’ve been meaning to update those docs to a Creative Commons licence: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/. So, yes, you may link or share those documents, with attribution, for non-commercial uses. and should include the same licence upon any derivative work. I can update my documents later today and share a new link with the new licence info included.

      1. I have updated the links in this article and the Random Animals article to the newest PDF version which includes the Creative Commons license information.

  4. Hey there, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, fantastic blog!

  5. Hello!
I randomly decided to come up with fruit/nut/grain/vegetable tables to go along with the flora table. It includes shape, seed shape, seed number, surface texture, color, pattern, flavor, and size, including size of seed. How do I submit it to you if you’d like to include it in your Random Flora Table? I just felt like this was the one thing the Random Flora Table was missing.
    Thank you for your consideration!

    1. Hello,

You could either e-mail (sebastian.romu@entorais.world) me the tables, or provide a shared link to files on Google Drive or the like, so that I may include them with credit to you.

      -Sebastian
